Simple entry of destinations in openroute service

Hi, in the list of destinations I can find a selection of destinations, but not nearly all like Google. I can mark destinations in the map which is complicated. Is there an opportunity to enter destinations with geografical coordinates ? Or is there another easy way ?

Hey,

I’m not sure I understand - could you explain a bit more in detail what you are trying to do, maybe add a screenshot?

Thanks

Hey, thanks for your answer. I think it is easier than you think. I wanted to test the mask ORS-Karten.

I wanted to specify a starting point and then add points. When you search for an address on Google Maps, you can usually find it. When you enter a location in this mask, you can choose between a few entries. You can also click on a point on the map. But it is very time-consuming to search for an address on the map display. That’s why I wanted to specify geographical coordinates to find a location.

However, I have not found a way to enter such coordinates. In summary: I am looking for a simple way to enter any address into the mask (for ORS maps). I would like to enter the ferry port in Harwich, England. The address is Stena Line, Parkeston Quay, Harwich CO12 4SR. How can I do this? Regards, mainze

Hello,

thanks for your reply. I upload a screenshot. As I said, if I enter as an example the address “Harwich International Port, Parkeston Quay, Harwich, Essex, UK CO12 4SR” (Ferry Port of Harwich), openroute service says that it can’t find such an address (but it is, of course, existing). Several addresses in Harwich are provided, but it is difficult to determine which existing address is closest to the desired one. If I want to mark the address in the map, it is difficult to find the address.

Several addresses in Harwich are listed, but it is difficult to determine which existing address is closest to the desired one.

I would have to search for all streets, preferably with the help of another map display.
So how do you enter exact addresses?

Hey,

there are two issues at play here:

  1. The geocoding integration in the client at maps.openrouteservice.org is not very good. We know about this, and we are looking to fix it at some point, but I cannot give you any timeline on that.
  2. While the openrouteservice only works on coordinates, the client at maps.openrouteservice.org cannot work with coordinates. We are also looking to fix that at some point, but again, no timeline available.

That being said, our old client at classic-maps.openrouteservice.org is a bit easier to use w.r.t. geocoding, but will be shut down at some point.

Best regards
